Mary Poppins would love The Whistling Oyster
The Whistling Oyster is practically perfect in every way. The kids loved spending the day in the pool or digging in the sand at the beach. We didn't have to tote little people and stuff across a busy road. We could - and did! - walk to the bookstore, ice cream shop, lighthouse. Practically perfect in every way.

Perfect Vacation Home

Wonderful House!!!
My family of 10 stayed at Whistling Oyster in 2023 and enjoyed our stay. The owners have done a tremendous job updating the house. Well done!!! And these updates made our second stay at this property for 2024 that much better. We love the Corolla Village area. Private and secluded. Beach Realty is an absolute pleasure to work with; responding quickly to any issues. We have been coming to OBX for 34 years and it's the best realty company we have ever had.

Family Vacation 2023
I want to start off by saying that we had a great stay at The Whistling Oyster. The house was the perfect size for our group of 15, allowing us to spend time together but also escape to our rooms/floor when we needed it. The location was perfect and allowed us to easily walk to the beach, coffee shops, and other nearby attractions. We loved enjoying our coffee on the third-floor patio and used the screened-in porch for game nights. The kitchen was well equipped but could use some newer/updated items. However, the cleanliness of the home needs addressed. Our trash cans were full upon arrival and when meeting with the maintenance guy, he let us know we were the first rental of the season... so I guess the trash sat there for months? Our floors were all sticky, turning our feet black within moments of arrival and walking around. We found misc items under the bathroom vanity from previous renters and some of the sheets had minor stains. I don't want this to take away from the awesomeness of the home, but I would say this needs addressed. We also had a few minor items that needed to be fixed during the stay, but the rental company was also prompt with their responses. Otherwise, we would definitely stay here again!

The house was amazing, plenty of space for our family. Really enjoyed the wrap around decks which we spent a lot of time on. The kids loved the pool and were in it every chance they got. Short distance to the beach, the pathway just across the street was a nice perk, although a couple times we went all the way around just for extra exercise. Only bummer was the condition the house was in the first day. We had to clean a lot. Dishes were left behind/dishwasher full of dishes/bathroom sinks with hair/toothpaste left in it. The entire interior stairs were covered in hair/dirt. Glad there was a vacuum and broom in closets we had access to.

Excellent Space to Spend A Vacation
My family and I have been traveling to the Outerbanks for many years now, but this was our first time staying at the Whistling Oyster. The space overall did not disappoint! The location was absolutely amazing, the walk to the beach was short, the house was very clean and organized. Renting it was an absolute breeze!
However, some small inconveniences to point out - in one of the mid-level masters, the overhead fan/light was broken, causing it to get pretty hot in the room with no air flow. Also, the only working tv was in the basement common room, all others would not work, which would have been nice at nighttime for all the younger children to wind down. Lastly, the kitchen is not stocked well enough with cooking supplies to cook a big meal, for a big family, who is likely staying there.
Just figured those things should be brought to the attention of the owners in case they had no idea! & these minor inconveniences will not stop us from booking there again, we overall still loved it!
Thanks for offering such a great vacation!

Trautman Family Vacation In The Outer Banks, N.C.
This was the third or fourth time we had rented the
Whistling Oyster house. It had been up graded since the last time we rented it and they did a great job with the up grade. The only problem my wife and I had was because of our age (80 and 81) it was quite difficult to get down to the pool and also go to the beach and get back up the steps to the third floor. This was our family celebration of my wife and myself 80 and 81 birthdays. We really enjoy the house and the location. With the extra bedrooms now is was great for our family as there was 9 of us in the house

Vacation was fantastic as always. The house and staff were great. One minor issue in a holiday weekend and their on call staff took care of it. Only down side was a rain out day and the TRAFFIC!

A great new experience

Excellent. Well equipped and tastefully appointed house. Perfect for a large family vacation. Proximity to the beach was great, and very important. Offers more privacy than most other properties, yet conveniently located. Rental agency (Kitty Hawk) was very responsive to requests and inquiries. We will be returning to Corolla, and hopefully to the Whistling Oyster.

Great location! 3 min walk to beach, no traffic, private, well-kept property. Easy access to shopping and recreation (far enough north that traffic is reasonable). Bottom level nicely finished out in 2016. Basketball goal was broken when we arrived, but replaced with no hassle. Pool very kid-friendly. One bedroom missing fan/light remote: reported but not replaced during our visit. House easily supported 4 families, 13 people, ranging from 6 to 77 yo. We recommend!

The Whistling Oyster
Wonderful week at the beach with family and family. Spacious unit with good open floor plan, nice accomodations. Need a new coffee maker and should supply toilet paper (at least one roll per bathroom)

Vacation stay 7/18-7/25
This was our first stay at the Outer Banks- the home met the majority of our expectations! The layout of the home is perfect for multiple families renting. The bedrooms were roomy- and the beds were comfortable. Not mentioned was the pack n plays in the closet- that was a plus. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything that you need to cook a meal- with some additional items I thought were a plus (griddle, crock pot). The refrigerator was adequate- my suggestion would be to upgrade to one with an ice maker- or provide more then 2 ice trays. The pool was a nice size and was cleaned twice by the pool service. The furniture on the pool deck could use a good cleaning and there were a few broken chairs that need to be removed. There is some cement cracked that needs some attention- but nothing dangerous to adults or children. The view from the deck is beautiful- the home is fairly secluded which is really nice. The condition of the decks needs some attention. There are multiple loose boards and the wood is splintering which was problematic with the kids we were vacationing with. The walk to the beach was a short one thru the woods- and the beach was not crowded which was a plus.The washer and dryer have a large capacity which is great for washing big loads. We had an issue with the dryer not working- the rental company was quick to send someone out to fix it. I had to call the rental company a few times with questions and want to mention that each time I called they were great- very knowledgable, helpful with each question I had, and very nice to talk with about the outer banks.

Happy at the Whistling Oyster!!!
We were very happy with the house and the location. Easy access to the beach. The only think with the house, you should look into taking care of where birds had made nests in eaves. The house was very clean. We were very happy with the management staff. We would definitely stay at this property again.

Great place. Just off the beach but close enough. Great value.
Overall the stay was great! Their is a shortcut through the woods to the beach and it was not crowded at all. The sand was beautiful and it was very quiet and peaceful and away from the hustle and bustle of the really touristy areas in the area. It is a bit of a drive from the hwy as it is at the very north end of the beach. The pool was great as were the chairs on the decks. The house had a little wear and tear with the screens on the screened in porch, the grill was not overly in good shape, the beds were a bit hard for my taste but they were fine as far as beds go and we had a couple small maintenance items that when we called the management company fixed immediately. They were very good to work with and very responsive. We had 12 people and had plenty of room. The house is laid out very well with up top being the main meeting area and lodging mainly on middle floor. Very nice property and would rent again. Oh, we rented bikes and it is a fantastic place to rent bikes. Very nice and easy paths to get to and ride on. Go to the 4x4 beach just north of house and watch people get stuck:)
