Outer Banks Fishing Pier Etiquette
Please remember that pier fishing is considered a sport in this area and people take it very seriously! Watch out for flying lines and hooks. If you are a beginner, stay towards the start of the pier and be mindful of crossing lines with others. The more experienced fisherman stay towards the end of the pier. Most piers have a limit of the number of rods per fisherman you can have. Usually, no bikes or skateboards are allowed. There are also rules about chumming, certain types of baits, and things of that nature. Please visit the websites below or call the piers for more information!
Kitty Hawk Pier
Located at milepost 1, the Kitty Hawk Fishing Pier is owned by the Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk. The Kitty Hawk Fishing Pier separates the towns of Kitty Hawk and Southern Shores. The Kitty Hawk was closed in 2003 after being devastated by Hurricane Isabel. A few years later it was purchased by the Hilton Garden Inn, remodeled and open to the public in 2008! Avalon Pier
Located in Kill Devil Hills at milepost 6 on the beach road (2111 N Virginia Dare Trl, Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina 27948), the Avalon Fishing Pier was built in 1958. Nags Head Fishing Pier

Jennette's Pier
Jennette's Pier is located at milepost 16 in Nags Head. Jennette's pier was recently renovated by the North Carolina Aquarium. It now includes an event facility (very popular for Outer Banks Weddings), a large indoor aquarium and enormous wind turbines which generate power for the facility. The Outer Banks Fishing Pier is located at milepost 18.5 in South Nags Head. It is the closest pier to Oregon Inlet.
