The Thunderbird - K0001

We opted for early check in and it was ready a few minutes before 1:00, still perfectly clean, which, due to beach front location, gave us a bonus afternoon on the beach. The views from the roof and jacuzzi are spectacular, but sunrise also beautiful from back deck. Kitchen has everything you need, including a large drawer of plastic storage containers, 2 full refridgerators(plus another in the ground floor). Easy walk to Bros(my fave place to eat on OBX), Fat Boyz, and outlet stores. Loved the lap pool and hot tub. Finding bikes to use was an unexpected pleasant surprise. Beds being made a big plus for me, as I am type A and don't enjoy being sweaty from unpacking and making the bed. Nearby public access and hotel means a few more people at the beach but that's it. Could it stand some upgrading as others have mentioned? Yes but not really an issue for us, we will absolutely stay here again if it is available. And if they do upgrade, it would be reasonable to expect prices to increase a couple thousand a week for this house at this location.

Since we were at the beach early April, the weather was up and down. The house was very nice. It was very clean. I was disappointed that the in-door pool was not available to use. I would definitely book this property again.

2nd time renting this location. 1st was 3 years ago for my 40th birthday, this time was just a family getaway. Both times here it was phenomenal. Plenty of room,everything was clean,and whole rental process was simple. As long as this property is available this is where we will be staying in OBX

We had a great stay at the Thunderbird. Everything was in good shape and working even as Tropical Storm Ophelia had just departed.

The photos don't really do the home justice. Yes, it's an older home but it really didn't matter.
Each bedroom is huge. The second-floor bedroom had very squeaky springs causing guests to sleep elsewhere when maintenance never responded to two calls over 3 days. The guests fixed it by adjusting "bunky" boards under the mattress.
We LOVE to cook. The kitchen had every amenity even an Instapot. More than enough of everything. Several coffee makers plus a Keurig.
The AC stayed cool.
The hot tub on the roof was awesome, no updating needed as other reviews have stated.
The rooftop pool was perfect for really windy days. The water was "milky" looking but we were assured that it was from the paint? We moved past it and it was just fine.
The lap pool was cool and refreshing despite the humidity when you walk in. Again the looks of the paint was the issue. The water was clear there were black holes in it- it looked sketchy but was great on rainy days.
Everyone loved the hot tub in the lap pool room.
We had two pups with us. We closed the door upstairs near the kitchen and they roamed freely there. Careful in the grassy areas watch for sand spurs but that's to be expected at the beach.
Seating- every meal, every bit of downtime, every game room gathering- everyone had plenty of seats. All comfy and inviting.
Three full-size fridges and multiple mini-fridges ensured plenty of room for everything.
A large kitchen pantry by the dining room table in the kitchen was very convenient.
Neither dishwasher did the job even when we washed everything before starting. Not a big deal
The house itself is clean. The cleaning crew missed some critical things (a very very gross grill).
Any other issues had nothing to do with the home. It was the rental company holding the house hostage between 4-6 and not notifying us it was ready and the linen company telling us they gave towels to (we are guessing) a stranger (shirtless and smok

We have stayed at The Thunderbird several times and it never disappoints. The views, the easy access to the beach, indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs, master bedrooms with king beds- it's a great place to relax! The furnishings aren't new and some updates are needed, but our family has made great memories here.

House was well laid out, children loved the indoor pool. down side hotel next door

The house had lots of areas to hang out on multiple levels. Lots of places to swim or hang out in a hot tub. Very well laid out house and great for pets too.

Had a great stay, unbeatable views and location. Was only unhappy with the pool and hot tub. Purposely rented this house for indoor pool as going in early spring, the pool was too cold to use, extremely in need of updating. Was able to use indoor hottub for first few days as it's temp was that of a pool not hot tub but for some reason Halfway thru stay it got cold. Not sure if dial was changed. So we did use roof top hot tub but it only had one working jet so that was a bummer. Otherwise loved this rental. Did not pay extra to heat indoor pool so maybe that was why it was cold. Assumed an indoor pool would be heated year round.

This house was really unique. I’ve never stayed in a house quite like this but I loved it!! There was a ton of room! There was a finished garage right at the entry level which was great for storage during the week. The indoor pool was a really cool amenity, especially for the kids. Location was perfect!! The roof top hot tub and deck area were breath taking! We spent most nights up there. The views were unbelievable! Oh and the maintenance people responded quickly when the hot tub stopped working. The ocean front gazebo worked well for storage after coming in from the beach for chairs, canopy, toys etc. There is some grass areas for dogs in the back of the house. We brought a baby gate play yard and kind of made our own fenced in back yard for the dogs. The only down side to this house is it could use some minor upgrades and a deep clean. Not anything that wasn’t tolerable. We did hear someone has recently bought the house so maybe these things will be changed. The sound in the house carries very easily. I guess because of what the house is made of. I’m not sure if it’s concrete but whatever it is the sound carries. It didn’t bother most of us but if you’re a light sleeper it may. Otherwise we loved this house!! We had a total of 13 people in this house and we had plenty of room. 6 adults and 7 kids and 2 dogs.

We had an awesome stay at The Thunderbird - it is such a nice house. We really enjoyed watching the sunsets and dolphins from the roof top. The location is convenient to everything we were wanting to do. Our four year old Granddaughter is ready to come back next year - and so is everyone else! Everyone had a wonderful time. Thank you "The Thunderbird" for giving us such an enjoyable vacation!

We n had a wonderful time! Location was great. Close to everything! The house has a lot of great amenities. Love the rooftop deck. The house could use some TLC....paint and some updating. Overall a great vacation!

All in all it was good. No major issues. Could use a coat a paint on the outside. The furniture is a bit dated but not in horrible condition.

Our family enjoyed the whole house. From bottom floor all the way to the top to swim and watch sun rises. We couldn't have been any happier with our choice. Thanks again Thunderbird.

This was the 5th year in a row that we have stayed at this house. This house feels like home to us. We love everything about it. The only suggestion I have is that the management company should be like others and offer a repeat renters discount.

Had a wonderful week - so nice getting away on a vacation. Enjoyed the home, beach, sightseeing, mini-golf, NC Aquarium, Jeanette's Pier, food, and so much more. Our 3 year old granddaughter calls the home her "Outer Banks Home". Everyone had an awesome time!

We all enjoyed the house , great location and my grandson really enjoyed the indoor hot tub and the roof top hot tub. It was clean and had extra things we needed. Our family said they would rent it again cause it was plenty big for everyone! Only thing I would say that it could use some up dating for furnishings!

Even though the weather was on the more chilly side, we spent a lot of time on the balconies (watching sunrise and sunset, dolphins, enjoying the waves and eating our meals at the picnic tables).

We had a great stay at the Thunderbird. Great location and easy to find. The indoor pool was a little chilly for us (but was expected since it's not heated), but we loved the hot tubs! The pool table on the upper level was fun for all of us!
The biggest downfall was that the welcome package was a bit lacking - only 1 roll of (cheap) toilet paper, the same for paper towels, and no soap near any of the sinks.
But overall, it was great! And our kids want to go back again next year!

Honestly a wonderful property that will stay with you long after you've left. Ideal for our party with a number of children that very much enjoyed the pool, hottub, rooftop terrace, pool table and the closeness to the beach. Highly recommended - we absolutely loved it!

We all really enjoyed our stay at The Thunderbird. My family of 17 had plenty of room to spread out -- to enjoy our time together, or escape for a minute. ;) The rooftop view was breathtaking, and beach access so convenient. We'd all love to do it again. Thanks for everything.

Loved sitting at the table and watching the dolphins playing in the surf. The view from the roof top deck was amazing. The weather could have been better, but there were plenty of games, puzzles, and a pool table to keep everyone busy. Very nice house!!!!

Relaxing

We had an amazing stay this year. We come to OBX every year but stay in a different town to mix it up. This year we stayed in Nags Head @ The Thunderbird and this home did not disappoint. We had no issues! This home was fully equipped with everything you would need in a kitchen, access to the beach was unbeatable, and the home was clean & comfortable. The kids loved all the extra space upstairs in the game room or the extra room downstairs plus of course the indoor spa and lap pool as well as the rooftop pool and hot tub. The views were absolutely stunning and the location to amenities was perfect. If we vacation in Nags Head again we will seek out this home, you should too!

We had 9 adults and 4 kids in this house for a week. There was plenty of space and the kids really enjoyed the multiple pools and hot tubs. The game room/pool table was used multiple times through the week as well. My favorite part was the beautiful view from the roof top and easy access to the beach. We also enjoyed the proximity to the pier!

This is a wonderful vacation home for a large family. Everyone was able to pick their own room and the bunk room housed all of the kids.
While we found some areas that needed extra cleaning, we took care of that and enjoyed our week. Just over the sand dune was the ocean making it very easy to get there and enjoy the waves and sand.

The house was just as described. There was something exciting on every floor. It was perfect for us, there were plenty of bathrooms and bedrooms and beds for everyone to spread out and be comfortable. The kitchen level was large enough for us to all get together for meals and games! The house is a bit older and the furniture is outdated but it is comfortable so I was pleased.

The weather was terrible, but due to the close proximity to the beach, we were able to take advantage of the few good days. Plenty of room for everyone in the house.

This was our 2nd time back at the Thunderbird, and we loved it once again. Our group had 4 adults, 4 toddlers, and 2 dogs... we all slept comfortably and had 2 open bedrooms to spare. Out Bernese loved the rooftop! She liked to look all around. Location is perfect! We enjoyed lots of great restaurants, the pier, the outlets, great grocery stores, etc. Had some beautiful sunrise and sunsets. Loved using the indoor pool and both hotubs, especially the one on the roof. We can’t say enough about how great it is- will be back next year!

Loved the place and plan to rent again. It needs to have someone check the kitchen drains....we ended up the last 2 nights killing roaches coming into the sink

Perfect for sunrises and sunsets. I can't imagine that any house we will ever stay in again will compare to this one!

The house as so spacious that we often lost track of where other family members were. With two pools, two hot tubs, game rooms and decks, there was more than enough space for everyone! We took 4 vehicles and parking was never an issue, as we utilized the space in front and behind the home.

We had a great stay at the Thunderbird! Great house, nice and clean, very cozy. The location was perfect for us, everything in walking distance. We walked to the outlets a few times, and Jeanette's pier is awesome! We saw a pair of dolphins everyday, and the last two days saw probably 20 dolphins swimming along the shore all day. You can see everything from the house.. lots of viewpoints, especially from the rooftop. We love that they are dog friendly, and the house is also very kid friendly (we have a 1 year old so the high chair/baby gate came in handy).

The weather was wonderful again for us this year! We enjoyed the Thunderbird! The access to the beach was very close and easy to use. The roof was a huge hit for our group with the great views, hot tub and pool. The gazebo was full of sand so we were unable to use it. Our vacation week turned out to be very enjoyable by everyone.

Best house we have rented in over 20 years -

It was epic! We loved the multiple areas of the home, especially the roof areas and the game room. The ability to escape to a quiet room was a great bonus! Convenience to shopping and small restaurants was wonderful!! We will booking soon for next year!

It was the best week ever! There was 17 of us that met up from Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Canada. The house is perfect for that many people. The house is amazing! The day it rained was not a problem, we just played in the indoor pool. It's a great pool for volleyball. All the roof top decks are out of this world. We met the owner, who is a very nice gentleman.

We love what this homes offers and it's convenient location. We recommended this home to another family in Newark and they have pre-registered for next year.

The Thunderbird is an amazing property! The location can't be beat. Easy walk to restaurants and several shops. The home's amenities are awesome...2 pools and a hot tub with a spectacular view from the rooftop. The home itself is dated and could use some updating but overall the location, pools and hot tub make it a wonderful place for a large family gathering.

It was perfect! All of the adults had King size beds and the linens were fantastic. The house was very clean and the layout was perfect for our family gathering. Having the extra refrigerator in the kitchen was a big bonus. Well stocked kitchen and the furniture was comfortable and clean. The laundry room had everything we needed and the bathrooms were very clean. We brought our furry friend and it was so nice to have a room with only 2 steps down to get outside. It made taking her with use so much easier. Big thanks to the owner and to Beach Realty - both very pleasant and helpful!

This was our second year staying at the Thunderbird house and we have booked it again for next spring break! The location is perfect for getting around the OBX area. We love the layout of the home. The view from the rooftop hot tub is by far the best around.

This home has great spaces and views in a very Convenient location. The bedding is good and gives lots of couples King Size beds and private baths although everything is a little tired and worn but makes families comfortable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Thunderbird. So great to have the pools as options. The views from the top decks are amazing! Our only complaint was the beachfront deck is buried by sand and behind a dune. We did not expect that, and we love the beachfront decks. Nonetheless, we would highly recommend this property!

The house was magnificent. The views of the ocean were breath taking. The house was located in the heart of town, which made shopping a breeze. Highly recommend this house.

We had several couples spend a great week at Thunderbird! Spacious and well equipped. We all had privacy and plenty of living areas. The rooftop hot tub is great and we played pool every night! It is our preferred location being close to outlets and Sam And Omie's restaurant! The Gazebo was unusable due to sand and the walk over the high dune was a challenge so maybe not ideal for elderly, handicapped or small ones. A decking walkway would be a good addition. Overall loved Thunderbird!

We had 4 families stay at the Thunderbird over our spring break. Let me just say...we all had a blast! The rooftop view is amazing, especially while soaking in the hot tub with a cold drink! Great location, tons of space and we loved the large kitchen! Already booked it for next spring break!
