Family vacation and we had a great time in the OBX.

Pro's:
The house is in a great location with easy beach access.
Excellent beach access at the end of the street.
Plenty of space in the house to group together, or find some quiet time for yourself.
Multiple outdoor spaces and we were able to enjoy spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
Kids really enjoyed the pool table.
Hot tub was covered, so we could still enjoy regardless of the weather.
Excellent AC

Cons:
The home is in need of some care and attention, as previous guests have stated.
There are fence posts missing, exposed nails/screws on the decks, outdoor furniture and pool area.
The freezer in the kitchen has an ice maker that does not make ice or keep items frozen.
Recliners did not recline.

Beach reality had EXCELLENT communication and we will book a home through them again in the future.

A little maintenance and this would be a great place to stay.

The house worked out fine for us. It could use some minor repairs. The decks had several nails sticking up and some of the railings were broken or just hanging on. The sofas could use some updating. They smelled musty. House was well stocked with all we needed.

We had a lovely time. The house was well-laid out and very comfortable. It's a great space to enjoy the holidays with friends!

Our family “let go” our oceanfront cottage in Nags Head several years ago. Since then, we still return there every year to another OBX rental. It’s always like “going home “. The Fall is a good time there - less crowds. Reduced rates and the ocean is warm.
This rental had what we needed: ocean view, pool, comfy beds, well stocked, charm, nice location, attentive Realtor and they allowed our 2 small dogs. Was grateful the kitchen was well stocked because I enjoy cooking .
The walk to the beach was not far. However, the recommended path was not the best route - loaded with burrs which got wedged in our pups feet. Good news-there is a public access in the other direction that is just as convenient. There were a few problems - saw a couple roaches, upstairs freezer wouldn’t keep ice cream, no blankets and the thermostat not user friendly. Never reported this to the realtor and not blaming the owner. Didn’t ruin our stay. Just saying... By the way, realtor was fantastic in responding to our needs when we contacted them. Best OBX realtor I have ever dealt with.
The pool and the ocean both were warm. It was a great visit. We needed peace & rest and we found it. Kudos to Coleman and Beach Reality

The house met our expectations and then some. The owners thought of very possible to make the stay enjoyable. We loved the hot tub and pool. It was perfect for us! There was a smell of like a cigar up stairs but other than that, the house was clean. Lots of kitchen tools (utensils, baking sheets, etc.). The umbrella and all the patio furniture made being pool side more enjoyable. Having the playground area for the kiddos was awesome. Nice sized laundry area and I really enjoyed being able to line dry clothes. The house was perfect for our vacation.

The rental experience overall at Coleman's Mermaid Hideaway was very positive. The housekeeping staff did an excellent job preparing for our visit. Everything was clean and neat. There was even a mid-week cleaning of the hot tub which was greatly appreciated. The location was close to restaurants, especially Bernie's Barefoot Tropical Bar, very wonderful food. We also enjoyed all the square footage of this house with great sectional couches. The faucet on the jacuzzi tub was small and the tub very large, which meant a longer fill time. All in all a very convenient and wonderful place to stay with great ocean views.

We loved the house and location, only recommendation would be the pool area needs some work. All of the furniture around the pool needs replacement, literally falling apart. The house was amazing otherwise.

Coleman's is in a great location, easy beach access and views. There were quite a few general maintenance issues that need attention. Some care and attention to those issues would help. Also, the kitchen was pretty well stocked; could use some more silverware. Loved the hot tub.

I love traveling down to OBX in the off season when there are less people. There were only a handful of houses in this area occupied this late in the season. For the price, you cannot beat this house if you're looking for something comfortable that's not necessarily fancy. A lot of items are old/worn and could be updated, and a lot of the wood furniture was broken (dining table chairs and deck furniture had broken support beams for instance), but everything was clean. Like someone else said, the décor grows on you and it starts to feel homey after a few days. The view of the ocean is stunning even being set back from the road. I will definitely rebook here for next year.

Tip: Bring larger trash bags for the can in the kitchen. The 13gal bags we brought were too small for the can, and the bags fell down when they started to fill up.

We absolutely loved this house, there is so much room. However, the couch could use replaced, it sinks down so low you can't get out of it and the chairs around the dining table are mostly broken and there is only one pool stick, the others were all broken. We chose this house for the pool and when we got there it was ice cold, after 3 days of calls, they finally came out and discovered the heater not working. It was very disappointing that it was not fixed while we were there as that is what my boys were most excited about.

House was nice, very spacious. Plenty of room for many guests to vacation together comfortably. House could use some maintenance and updating. Location was perfect, short walk to the beach and nice central location easy to travel to different areas on the island. Nice ocean view, watched dolphins almost every morning and evening from the deck.

As in previous reviews the house is older and some portions (outdoor steps leading to the 3rd floor) probably need to be replaced. The house is very spacious, great location to the beach. Watch out for cactus in the grass areas (naturally in surrounding properties too). Property is clean, great views, Pool was warm, hot tub was hot, outdoor shower had both warm and cold. We did see a couple Palmetto bugs, but have always seen them down in the south (nothing to be worried about). Nice to have wifi and cable TV in each room. 1st floor bedroom, laundry, bathroom and great room are awesome for older adults that dont like the stairs. We will stay again, great house, just needs some updates.

We were very happy with our stay. There are a couple of boards/rails throughout the decks that need replaced. A couple of the dinners/breakfasts we cooked we were in need of larger sized non stick frying pans, other than that, we had everything we needed.

The house was great! Definitely needs a few repairs here and there but it served its purpose as a rental and place to stay with a nice heated pool. Can’t beat the location, 1 block from the beach. The property was super clean and ready for us early. I would definitely stay here again!!

Several pluses- Received door code so we didn't have to stop by the rental office to check-in, unit was available before 4 pm, vacuums handy, nice pool table. Found a path nearby leading to the beach so good access. Found binoculars to watch the dolphins!
Lots of light switches that didn't seem to have purpose. Consider changing bedspreads that are showing wear. Would recommend this house for group that doesn't really want to stay with the group all the time.

There is a ton of space to spread/hang out both inside and out. The heated pool made swimming possible even with temps in the 50s outside. For the price you honestly can't beat it.

The interior could be drastically improved by simply taking almost everything off of the walls (although it grows on you). Most of the windows need screens. There were a lot of roaches on the deck outside at night, however we did not see any inside the house during our stay.

We had a wonderful stay. The location of the property and amenities made for an enjoyable week. The check in and out process was easy.
The house has a few imperfections, but were not totally unexpected given the rental price. Some attention is needed to repair some areas like exterior steps and some of the bed frames.

WELL FIRST DAY KILLED 3 ROACHES OUTSIDE ON DECK AND 2 INSIDE IN DIFFERENT BEDROOMS CALLED AND THEY HAD SOMEONE COME RIGHT AWAY AND SPRAY ONLY 1 FOUND AFTER THAT,NEXT MIDWEEK POOL SERVICE DID NOT SHOW UP UNTIL THURSDAY TO CLEAN HOT TUB AND POOL AFTER I EMAILED REALITY COMPANY. THE POOL AREA COULD USE ALITTLE TLC PAINT AND WEEDS.OVERALL A NICE RENTAL INSIDE AND CLOSE TO BEACH

Overall - 90% few cosmetic errors however not enough to push us away. The renal company as whole - 100% highly recommend Beach Realty as they did exactly as stated in contract and did not bother a soul during our stay.
Cleanliness- 90% mostly personal judgement so cant state and remain fair...we will book same house same company for 2020 guaranteed.

TOTALLY SATISFIED. THE HOUSE HAD EVERYTHING NEEDED OTHER THAN A BROOM. MINOR CONCERN WAS A WEAK DECKING BOARD AND MISSING DECKRAIL PICKET ON THE TOP DECK NEAR THE STAIRS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD ADDRESSED. WILL RESERVE AGAIN.

Definitively some areas for improvement, but by and large a great overall experience. The house had some great features that made it very convenient, but was dated and had some issues with things breaking. And a couple bugs, but that may have been when we went... great value for the price we paid.

The place is definitely in need of some updates. The rooms are small and bathrooms are small. All rooms need some love. The free pool heat was a major plus because we went in October and were able to swim! The pool area is large, but all the furniture is pretty shabby. The hot tub worked but it didn't get very hot. The beach/shopping/restaurants/attractions are all close! We wanted a place for our families to relax and enjoy each other's company and we definitely did. Updates or a weekly price reduction is recommended.

Could not have had a better week weather wise.The house had plenty of space for all our family.The down stairs was really great for our grand kids, who played a lot of pool. Rest of the house was very clean and ready for us. Would recommend to anyone. Close to beach and the walk to the beach was easy. Pool and hot tub were a welcome after a day of fishing and shopping. Close to nice places to eat and shop. A great week was had by all.

This was the first vacation in a few years our family has been able to take & we were VERY excited when I booked this home.Then I panicked!!I noticed some reviews from last visits that were updated since my booking.I was highly stressed the home was full of roaches, the chairs around the pool were all broken or the knobs on the sinks were going to come off. NONE of that happened when I was there.The home was very clean, seen three ants down stairs in the doorway.None of the pool chairs were broken or did the fixtures on the sinks come off.There was a small area in the fence that had been mentioned in a past review,it was not in an area any pet could escape.Our issues were:The grass had not been cut all summer so volleyball net was not used.There was lots of trash on the ground around the house,yard,&swing set.We picked up much of it one afternoon ourselves concerned of our dog eating something.The inside of the house was clean but very outdated. The beds felt VERY inexpensive.The head board in the Master kept coming apart & falling behind the bed.Obviously it was previously rigged to not look broken.There is too much furniture that could be replaced, removed or cleaned.The house had Lots of spider webs hanging on the top deck highly used & had the best view in the house.The kitchen was very nice along with the big screen tv that worked just fine with no issues.The upstairs toilet by kitchen stopped working that caused a steady drip downstairs by the pool table.The staff immediately sent a plumber that openly admitted he had just been at this house the previous week for the same problem & should have just replaced the wax seal at that time.Problem returned after 2-3 flushes.For the cost of the house it would have been nice to have a direct access to Beach Rd from the back yard instead of walking down the road around the neighboring house to a path.Considering the weekly cost that should be an absolute luxury of the home.The owners need to consider the all reviews.

Great location, great friends, almost perfect weather until Friday. Rental had everything we needed. The pool saved the day in the late afternoon.

Awesome. Great weather. Great food. Great house to stay at with a large family or 2 families. This is the 3rd time I have stayed in the house. Extremely close to beach, very easy walk- 1-2 minutes. I will stay here again.
*only 1 problem with this house- the TV's are everywhere but the cable system does not work properly on all TV's- 1 of the master bedrooms is messed up (and always has been?) and the upstairs main den TV is spotty (cable service issue?).

The house was great. Very big and set up great for people to live on different levels with privacy. The pool was heated and saved us on the windy days, when we couldn't go to the beach.
